Julius Caesar - Elephant and Priestly items

$2,950.00
Sold Out - Please email info@peregrinpendants.com to inquire about a similar pendant.

First Julius Caesar coin I've ever bought, now hand set in an 18k gold bezel with a thick bail. This amazing coin was purchased from one of America's top ancient coin dealer. The coin measures 20 mm in width and 25 from top to bottom.

This coin was carefully set in a gold bezel, which was then hammered on both sides (and finally sanded and polished).

The reverse of this silver coin shows the priestly implements. These were either worn by priests, or used in divination or sacrifices, and are often depicted on Roman coins. Priestly implements represented the different high priesthood (college) into which the Caesar or emperor had been adopted.

-- Coin information:

The Caesarians. Julius Caesar. April-August 49 BC. AR Denarius (19mm, 3.82 g, 8h). Military mint traveling with Caesar. Elephant advancing right, trampling on horned serpent / Emblems of the pontificate: simpulum, aspergillum, securis, and apex

Gaius Julius Caesar was a Roman general and statesman. A member of the First Triumvirate, Caesar led the Roman armies in the Gallic Wars before defeating his political rival Pompey in a civil war, and subsequently became dictator from 49 BC until his assassination in 44 BC. He played a critical role in the events that led to the demise of the Roman Republic and the rise of the Roman Empire.
