Diana Lucifera - denarius in gold with amethyst

Sale Price:$875.00 Original Price:$1,225.00
Sold Out - Please email info@peregrinpendants.com to inquire about a similar pendant.

Exceptional coin of Julia Domna, with an amethyst set below.

To appreciate its size, the relief of the coin and the shape of the bail, see the picture showing the coin next to a US quarter. The coin was first set in a gold bezel, which was then hammered over the edge of both sides. This was then sanded and polished. This pendant is built to last.

Coin information:

Julia Domna, silver denarius. Mint in Rome between 193 and 211 AD

Obverse: IVLIA PIA FELIX AVG. Draped bust right.
Reverse: DIANA LVCIFERA. Diana Lucifera standing left, holding long torch in both hands.

Very nice coin, in EF+/EF- condition, conserving complete details on both sides, including a superb bust of Julia Domna in obverse. High quality silver with part ot the original luster well preserved. In fact, the coin looks much better in the hand than in the picture.

Diana is a Roman goddess, patroness of the countryside, hunters, crossroads, and the Moon. She is considered a virgin goddess and protector of childbirth

Julia Domna was Roman empress from 193 to 211 as the wife of Emperor Septimius Severus. She was the first empress of the Severan dynasty. Domna was born in Emesa (present-day Homs) in Roman Syria to an Arab family of priests of the deity Elagabalus

- Comes with certificate which guarantees authenticity and provides background information (listed below) on the acquired coin
- Sterling silver chain and jewelry pouch included
- Interested in ancient coins? I wrote a little bit about what I find fascinating about them here: https://tinyurl.com/24pkndjw
